The just had a realization. I use coffee and beer in similar ways.
This is what happens when I drink coffee at least 80% of the time. I go to the kitchen, pick out the Flavia packet with the highest bean level (the Sumatra has 6 out of 7 beans, but I found a 7 beaner on another floor once). Pick the strong setting and brew that shit.
Now what I purposefully skipped in that process to explain now is that before I set it off I put about 5 of the little ice cubes from the ice maker in the mug. Why would I do this? Because it comes out obnoxiously hot and I'm not waiting 10-15 minutes to drink the coffee. Why's that? Coffee has a fairly singular purpose in my life. Wake me up on the rare occasions when I didn't sleep enough and the fatigue is impeding my work. So I dump the ice in to make it just above room temperature right off the bat. I don't add anything to it, I just take it back to my desk and drink the whole cup in the next 2 minutes.
As I was just doing this I had this realization that I was essentially chugging a beverage that has a less than stellar taste for a purpose. I was like wow, this is like downing light beer to get drunk.
That said, I enjoy a far higher percentage of the beers I drink than the cups of coffee I drink. Unless it's a fancy frozen treat, PSL (Pumpkin Spice Latte), or in a similar high sugar form, coffee has little appeal to my taste buds, while a nice IPA will always go over well with me.
