Christmas 2009

So Christmas rolled around once again. There were good points and bad points.

I camped out at my parents place (I say camped out, but I slept in my old bed), for the week between Christmas and New Years. I thought I was going to have all sorts of time to chill, but work decided that instead of me taking 4 days of vacation that it would be cool to put some deadline on December 31st (to be fair it was some soulless client, not my employer), so instead I crammed hours before getting to MD, and then continued to cram hours up until the morning of the 30th, from their place. I'm really glad I had already used my floating holidays, and I sure as hell wouldn't think about leaving them around for next year. Not to mention I love the implication that the LAN parties are personal holidays of mine by using the floating holidays on those Fridays.

Now that I got the complaints out of the way...

I convinced the fam that we should all watch the existing 13 episodes of Fox's new show Glee. If you haven't seen it, it really is worth taking a look. Some folks may not get the dark humor, some may think the singing and dancing is silly, but I like to think of it as what High School Musical was always meant to be, but couldn't be since it was associated with the Disney Channel. The musical pieces are well done, most of the singers are really top notch, and they do some really creative things with the musical sections. The plot is also full of fun drama, and I think that most people should be able to find something they identify with, in at least one character, if not more.

As for more fun, I got 2 new hard drives, one was a super fast SSD hard drive for performance, the other a 2 TB drive for storage. So far the SSD hasn't been showing as noticeable of a performance increase as I had hoped, but I suppose I might not have come across the right task yet. I also got this sign from my sister to hang in my office. It says "I'm having a nice day, don't screw it up." I'll have an update on the sign in a later post. To wrap things up I kept my tradition since Christmas of 2005, and consumed copious amounts of alcohol on Christmas, there's just something a little more special about drinking on Christmas than other occasions.

I'm working the other posts... standby.
