So the next step in the rhythm game revolution has arrived: DJ Hero.
I played it for maybe 15 or 20 minutes in Best Buy about a week ago, and at first I was having a blast even though I was playing through the tutorial. Once I was sure I had the hang of what was going on I played a couple of songs. Surprisingly it was hard to find a mash-up that I was interested in trying out. Even then, on the two I tried it was sort of fun, but for the most part it didn't seem very challenging or particularly satisfying. I left the game less than impressed. I was able to do one of the harder songs on medium difficulty and I had barely played the game. I suppose past experience with rhythm games probably gives me an edge, but I'm worried that the game will be easy, and then suddenly become impossible.
The song selection seemed just okay, but maybe I need to trust the people who chose the songs and assume that there will be some really fun tracks to play that use songs I'm completely unfamiliar with. That is certainly something that happened for me here and there in the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games. Every once in a while I'd hit a song that I either didn't know, or didn't really like listening to, but the note chart was a lot of fun to play.
What it all comes down to is that I can't decide whether it needs to be on my Christmas list or not.
