On Friday I went to the Less Than Jake concert at Rams Head Live in Baltimore. To make it sweeter my good college buddy Mike came up from Atlanta to join me. He stayed for the weekend, an epic weekend, but that will be the topic of the next post. For now I'm going to stick just to the show.
The crowd was good, and clearly excited. I say they were clearly excited because people started dancing and moshing during the first band's performance. I've never seen that at a concert before. It blew me away that people were showing that much enthusiasm. The first band was fairly good. They were called The Flatliners. It's hard to describe them. There was some screamo aspect to them, but not entirely. They also have this style to some of the songs where the guitar makes those shirt picks like you might get in ska music, or in Sublime.
Speaking of Sublime, the second band, The Expendables, wanted to be the new Sublime. The best way to describe them is a band that makes music for stoners. Almost all of the songs were about smoking weed, or involved it. I don't mind that at all, it's just not a message that resonates heavily for me. There was nothing off-putting about the musical content either, and like I said it had a Sublime type feel to it. The best thing I can note is that they had an amazing guitarist. This guy was extremely talented, and did some really impressive solos.
So all in all, good crowd, good music, good performance. Less Than Jake never disappoints. The only disappointment was in myself when I realized that even after about a year, I still haven't listened to their newest album, GNV FLA.
