I Love You, Man

Yesterday I went to the movies for the first time in quite a while. I went to go see "I Love You, Man" starring Paul Rudd and Jason Segel on opening weekend. The movie is about Pete (played by Paul Rudd), who is gets engaged and then realizes that he has no male friends when he and his fiance start discussing the wedding party and who his best man will be.

Pete is a real estate agent, and meets Sydney (played by Jason Segel) at an open house he is throwing for a high profile house he's selling. The two end up hitting it off and you can see where the rest of it is heading. It's a fairly predictable story line, that follows the romantic comedy story arch quite closely. If you aren't familiar with that then somehow you haven't noticed that all romances in movies follow the same set of phases.

Anyways, I liked it a lot. Segel and Rudd delivered all of the funny I expected them to. Jason Segel has quickly become my favorite member of the Judd Apatow crew. He was amazing in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and again delivers the funny.

The movie is rated R, and thinking back on it, I'd say the only reason for that is that they say "fuck" too often to stay PG-13. I would definitely recommend it if you liked the other movies that have come out in the past 5 years from the Apatow crew. If you don't know what I'm talking about here's a quick list:

Superbad
40 Year Old Virgin
Knocked Up
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Pineapple Express
Talladega Nights
Walk Hard

For the hardcore who miss his TV shows:
Freaks and Geeks
Undeclared

  1. Just got out of I Love You, Man. Solid flick. The Apatow crew have the amazing ability not to get stale. They've put out 2-3 movies a year for the last fours years and only a couple outright sucked.
