Business Trip to New York City

This past week I spent a few days on a business trip to New York City for the Engage! Expo, which is a conference about virtual worlds. Some of my work involves virtual worlds, so it was of interest to BAH. On the down side this particular conference was focusing more on VWs for teens and tweens (since that is the market for VWs that is expected to grow a lot this year). We still gathered some good info though.

I met up with Glenn, Laura, and Brad Tuesday night and we had some drinks and visited a mac and cheese place called S'Mac for dinner. It was pretty good. Then the closest bar that we happened upon was Coyote Ugly. It very well may have been the bar that inspired the movie, although it was quite dingy and not very crowded (even for a Tuesday night, I'd think a place that was "famous" would get more business than that).

I'm not sure when exactly I was in NYC last, but I remember stepping out of Penn Station and being in awe of just how tall the buildings are. It was a trippy feeling. I actually think I could potentially enjoy being in a place like that. I might have some issues with not being able to have all the space I am used to, and the number one thing I'd miss the most would be driving. I suppose if I lived on Long Island, then I could get the city experience on the weekends, and live in a more suburban setting during the week.

I also picked up Watchmen at a Border's near the hotel I was in (The New Yorker), and started reading it on the train ride back. It's pretty good so far, I'm excited to finish it and see the movie.

The train was pretty good. I was on the Acela Express train. Even with stopping at maybe 5 places along the way we got from DC to NYC in 2 hours and 45 minutes. The train seems like a pretty no bullshit way to travel, and the seats were of decent size.
